Automatic life insurance review for service members
Sponsored by Marilyn Strickland
What the bill does
This law requires the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to review every five years the maximum automatic coverage amounts for Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance and Veterans' Group Life Insurance. The review will compare the current coverage to $500,000 adjusted for inflation, and the results will be sent to Congress as a guide for possible increases.
The stakes
This affects active-duty service members, veterans, and their families who rely on these life insurance programs. Without regular reviews, coverage amounts could lose value over time due to inflation, leaving families with less financial protection.
