Who they are

Background

Ken Griffin began trading from his Harvard dorm room in the 1980s — even putting a satellite dish on the roof to pull in stock quotes — and founded the hedge fund Citadel in 1990. He owns about 80% of Citadel, which has become the most profitable hedge fund in history, and also owns Citadel Securities, one of the largest firms handling United States stock trades. In 2015 he paid $500 million for two paintings, the largest private art deal on record at the time.
